The HK Villa was conceived as a country residence for an urban client who lived and worked in the dense hi-rise environment of downtown of Hong Kong. Located in a lush valley in the New Territories, a 40 minute drive from Hong Kong's city centre, the villa nestled into the landscape and captured views of the low lying mountains of the vicinity. An existing village townhouse was used as a starting block for the project and became the key form in a three-sided open courtyard occupied by a water feature and bridge that was the main entry to the villa. An outdoor dining pavilion connected to the main house and kitchen and framed the north side of the water courtyard. A modernist design language permeated the project softened by a rich material pallet of timber framing with exposed steel structure and detailing.
