canada goose xi’an pop-up pavilion

client: canada goose
location: xi’an skp, xi'an, china
type: luxury retail / temporary installation

dkstudio architects inc. collaborated with Canada Goose to create the Xi’an Pop-Up Pavilion, a sculptural retail installation positioned within a central circulation zone of a luxury shopping environment. Conceived as more than a retail kiosk, the pavilion extends into the public realm, inviting visitors to pause, gather, and engage with the brand beyond a transactional experience.

The project draws from Canada Goose’s Arctic heritage, where the company originally developed performance outerwear for extreme climates and rescue operations. Rather than applying branding to a structure, the design transforms the Canada Goose disc logo into the architecture itself. The emblem — derived from an Arctic map — is abstracted and scaled so that its latitude and longitude lines generate the enclosure, forming walls, ceiling, and spatial organization. Visitors do not simply encounter the logo; they inhabit it.

A suspended disc canopy establishes the pavilion as a clear spatial presence within the retail landscape. Integrated lighting traces the geometry and recalls reinforcement stitching found in Canada Goose garments, while a continuous deep blue carpet grounds the interior and introduces warmth and comfort against the precise metal framework.

Retail elements are intentionally minimal. Open edges dissolve the boundary between store and concourse, allowing the installation to function simultaneously as retail environment, exhibition, and gathering space. The pavilion communicates the brand’s identity through atmosphere and spatial form rather than signage alone.

By translating a graphic symbol and garment construction into architecture, the project repositions the temporary retail pavilion as an immersive brand environment — expressing performance, protection, and community through material and space.

Primary Materials: CNC-cut aluminum and steel framing systems, powder-coated metal panels, integrated LED lighting, and commercial carpet flooring.
