madison nobu decor studio
location: toronto, canada
Founded by Chef Nobu Matsuhisa, and Academy Award winner Robert De Niro, Nobu is one of the worlds’ most celebrated luxury hospitality brands. Nobu and the Madison Group have collaborated to create Nobu Toronto, Canada’s First Nobu Hotel, Restaurant & Nobu Residences.
dkstudio architects inc. was commissioned to design the Décor Studio for the Nobu residences, 2 luxury towers comprising of 700 fashionable lifestyle suites that link to the hotel, restaurant and podium.
Our approach was to turn the mundane and oftentimes incommodious process of tailoring the design of one’s unit through the selection of finishes and fixtures into a luxury experience. The mood and atmosphere were to simulate high end European fashion houses, not the homogenized sales centres of today that jostle for the attention of buyers.
The space is comprised of 2 sections: the Nobu High Rise and Madison Low Rise Design Studios. Both studios share a common reception punctuated by an elliptical reception desk and illuminated circular feature ceiling.
The Main concept for the Nobu Décor Studio was the fashion runway: a white passage lined with samples displayed as in a luxury boutique, where clientele walk down the glossy runway surrounded by samples displayed like luxury goods. The runway leads to the bar lounge that is in itself reminiscent of VIP lounges in upscale fashion boutiques. The lounge is framed on one side with a floor to ceiling bar, and on the other end with a large format sample display wall. 3 layers deep of Large samples are mounted on tracks that can be pulled across to mix and match a variety of finishes, displayed while you sit on a designer sofa sipping champagne.
An outdoor patio is carved into the swelling landscape outside offering reprieve and refreshments from the world of selecting luxury finishes inside.
